WHAT CHILDREN WILL LEARN
- Physical - Fine motor - grip of chalk using thumb, index and middle fingers
- Intellectual - Observing how white salt changes colour
- Emotional - Engagement between children and parents
- Social - None
Children and parents will create coloured salt by using salt and chalk, and make a jar filled with layers of different coloured salt.
Gather the materials.
Pour some salt into the ziplock bag.
Choose a food colouring that you would like to start first. Drop a few drops of the colouring into the bag and rub it with your fingers. Observe what happens to the salt. The salt has changed to the colour of the food colouring.
Repeat the above steps for the 2 more colours.
Once all 3 colours are ready, take the empty container, use a spoon and scoop one of the coloured salts and pour it in. Repeat the above step with the different coloured salts until you reach the brim. Secure the jar tightly with the lid and ensure that there is no gap. Congratulations, you have a jar filled with pretty swirls and colours!
